Writing and its value
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

What does a writing mean when nobody reads it? What value does it have-if any at all? Does it even exist then? If nobody reads it and only a writer knows of it, although it may be online, but if nobody knows where to find it and doesnt know of it-is it real then, does it exist?

Imagine a tree in a forest. It has been alive for hundreds of years and is really high, with its mighty branches it clutches trees around it and could give a person that would come there in rain a good shelter. One would admire it when he/she would see it, so beautifull and incredible it is. Especially in spring, when it shows off its coulours and leaves burst out of it with all beauty and life it has in it. It's magic ... But this tree is situated somewhere in the middle of a wide forest where nobody has been there-ever. It's so deep in the forest and humans with all their characteristics of their nature, who don't need to go that deep into forest just because, have never set their foot near that tree. Poor old tree, tired and exhausted of a time it has lived there and helped make an oxygen with other trees around, suddenly gives up, runs out of strenght and falls down on the ground. The sound breaks through the air, makes a loud noise, but no living man hears it, because nobody is around.

Did this tree existed then? Did it really fall? Did it really made an oxygen? How can we know that for sure?! (You can try to answer this, if you think you know an answer ...)

So, if we return back to writing-does this blog i just wrote exists if nobody reads it and knows that it has even been written?! Of all the people online maybe a few will read this, but most won't. So what-that's life, get a grip-except it! That's a thing-we all must except things as they are. This blog may not be read at all, but i'll know it exists, i'll know that nobody read it. So, will books and thoughts of other people exist when nobody will read them and forgot about them. Will people in hundreads of years know that they existed ever if we forget them now? This issue is the same as the problematics with that tree i just told you about. And what do you think-if you think anything at all?
So, does a writing have a value then if nobody reads it and assess it?

Hey!
That's an interesting perception & topic. I myself personally view writing as an activity; an independent moment between the writer, the paper and the mind -- when all three come together to orchestrate something onto a screen, page or whatever. Before the writing is complete, it is a medium for an individual to reflect on thoughts and express emotions. Thus, I do believe writing exists and I believe it exists in time and through time. Of course the next individual may not pick up the book that you worked hard writing, but that book has presence in your life. That book or story is an influence by all the interactions you've encountered throughout your life; it is a deep and subtle reflection of you. And I'd like to think that because you write and you think and you are of some great importance to atleast another individual, what you have to say exists.

It's a big world but I don't think it's necessary that all the world needs to know one's name for an individual to hold presence. In a world of so many books, essays, stories and information, a lot can be lost and forgotten by the most of us, but the effort and the time that goes into anyone of those products shouldn't be overlooked.

Great blog! :)

Writing has a value even if no one reads it and assesses it because at the specific moment in time when it was written the writer put their heart and soul into what they were writing. They got inspired and decided to write it down. As a writer, I only truly get inspired about twice a month, it's not much but to feel inspired even if it's just for a brief minute is the best feeling. You don't have to be known to be a writer, your pieces of writing don't have to have a meaning to anyone else but you. However, I do feel that by reading someone else's piece of writing can inspire you and can certainly change you forever, if you let it.

thank you both for this replys.
i didn't mean that thousands should read it that it would make it knowable. i was just stating a question-if it's real, existable if nobody reads it.

i liked both of your views of point. thank you both! excellent way of thinking;) i myself look at this matter from different angles, points of view.
and as one of you said-the best thing is to feel this feeling, even if lasts just for a few moments it makes you wholer for quite a time-that's how i feel when i compose music! but it makes you even more happier if you know that somebody likes what you did ...
thank you both again!
